September Morning (2017)
narrative feature
Alongside director Ryan Frost, Visualization Supervisor Paul Gleason visualized the entire feature film prior to production. This approach proved invaluable throughout the uniquely challenging production, which takes place inside a single room.
Among its many creative advantages, the use of pre-visualization tools allowed for more specific and technical control. For example, were the realities of a small space and excessively large camera. To achieve an "early 2000s" look, the camera was an older Panavision Genesis. Its tremendous size and weight proved practically hard. Anticipating problems like this was key to completing the film in a similarly tight production schedule.

The Press ConferencE
(2016)
narrative short
Visualization Supervisor Paul Gleason was also Director of Photography on the short film The Press Conference, made as part of the Shatterbox Anthology for Refinery29, Envisioned as a single Steadicam shot by Director Meera Menon, the technically challenging film was further complicated by the scale of the location, a 360 degree view, and a narrow timeframe.
Paul and Meera worked extensively in Pre-Visualization to solve many of these issues, and also to explore iterative camera options that would not have been possible given the time constraints. For Paul, the "Tech-Viz" component was critically important for lighting purposes, and to quickly communicate necessary information to the Camera and Grip & Electric crew. Filmed on Arri ALEXA Mini, with 40mm anamorphic Kowa lens.
